The September dinner meeting will be at Grill 28 Restaurant at Pease Golf Club. The after-dinner speaker will be Steve Wittrock, Captain USCG (ret).
Captain (ret) Wittrock was the Commanding Officer of the US Coast Guard Cutter Katherine Walker, homeported in Bayonne NJ on September 11th, 2001. After he and his crew watched the tragic events unfold, they quickly responded as one of the first Coast Guard cutters on scene. Captain (ret) Wittrock will discuss the immediate response to support the safe maritime evacuation of a half million persons off the island of Manhattan along with recovery operations followed by the emerging security concerns in NY Harbor and all ports throughout the nation. Captain (ret) Wittrock will then highlight the transformation that the Coast Guard went through over the next several years up to today to meet the challenges of the new understanding of potential security threats in the maritime environment.
